Members

Alisyn Malek
Mixed material experimenter, fiber artist, and globe traveler. Although I am re-engaging my fiber craft, more recently I have been focusing on current event collage.  Digging primarily through newspapers I explore the juxtaposition of daily life and bring them to focus for the viewer.  Occasionally playful, often social commentary, and sometimes just for color - the small size of the pieces draw the viewer in to explore the details comprehend the content.  I also work through Corktown Studios to help artists find new opportunities to show their work, I also explore musical space and time as a saxophone player with Botanical Fortress.  In my other day job, I am the chief operating officer for a driverless vehicle start up.

For samples of my work, check them out here.

Jake Chidester
Architectural designer, artist, and maker. (‘Pretty good designer and builder of things’.) Distilled, my work investigates place, often as an implied consequent of activity. The hegemony of image in experience, input/ output space, implied space, and the exaggeration of volume through slowing and exploding of process are generally present in my work. I work professionally as the director of design for a local development firm, am adjunct faculty at Lawrence Technological University’s College of Architecture and Design, and co-own Corktown Studios

Paula Zammit
The pervasive theme in Paula's work, whether it be painting, encaustic (which migrates between 2 and 3D application) or some other non-traditional material such as urethane foam, is her interest in organic form.  From her realistic figurative paintings to the biomorphic abstract work she creates, her curiosity and intrigue in the natural world and the parallels existing therein, are undeniable.  She holds a BFA (with honors) from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI.  Also, she is married to Jay Zammit, two-time Ironman finisher. Aside from a handful of years in St. Louis, she is a life-long Detroit, MI area resident and happy to be immersed in the rebuilding of the North Corktown neighborhood.

Jason Reed
Jason’s paintings are primarily done on wood panels, leaving the wood itself as an important part of the work. “Working on wood lets the natural beauty, texture and grain be as much of the piece as what I add to it. These are collaborations with mother nature really. Half the work is done before I even start.”

Using a combination of mediums such as stain, acrylic paint, marker and varnish, Reed assembles his works unplanned. “The works all have an entry and exit point. They are part of a bigger picture. As my mind races to figure out what lies beyond the edges of my canvas, my hands prepare what I can see before me. I leave the viewer to figure out the rest.
